Who should have been acknowledged for discovering the ground breaking heart surgery for blue baby syndrome?

In the 1940's this new surgery technique was discovered by a Black lab technician by the name of Vivien Thomas, however the man he worked for, Dr. Alfred Blalock received credit for the procedure as well as many other procedures and works throughout their 30 some year work history together. What is a good argument on why this should not have happened?
