Why is the 2nd amendment so important when so many people keep getting shot?

Guns have cause way too many problems. Gang shootings, school shootings, mall shootings, murders, suicides, accidental shootings ect. Way too many people keep getting shot and killed. Why is it a good idea for there to be more guns? That only raises the chance that someone will get shot and or killed. Would you rather have Sung Hoi Cho (VIrginia Tech macre man) armed so he can kill all those people easily or unarmed where all he can do is punch them with his hands? Do you like people to get shot?
