Tongue piercing...endocarditis?

Years ago I removed my tongue ring due to the impending threat of endocarditis. I was told the piercing hole never heals while the tongue ring is in and therefore it's a huge germ threat. (u know how the navel ring hole gets that foreskin around it and is closed off aside from the area u stick ur ring in). Please any insight, opinions.
